Advocacy

The Arc of Rappahannock, in conjunction with the other chapters and
The Arc of Virginia advocates on the state level for services. There are over 4,000 people in Virginia awaiting community services, in the form of Medicaid Waivers, and only several hundred Waivers available each year. The Arc has advocated very long and hard for the waivers that we have and will continue to do so.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies is an international program founded by the Kennedy family that matches college and university students with people, age 18 and above, who have intellectual/developmental disabilities. The purpose is to form ongoing friendships between these two groups. The Arc of Rappahannock sponsors this program in conjunction with the University of Mary Washington. Buddies are matched at the beginning of the school year and they are required to have weekly contact with each other throughout the year.
