Special Olympics
Area 11 Special Olympics "Young Athletes Program".
Area 11 Special Olympics (Stafford,Spotsylvania, Carloine,King George and Fredericksburg) is in the process of starting a new and exciting program called the "Special Olympics Young Athletes Program". In the past Special Olympics has only served athletes with intellectual disabilities from the age of 8 and up. Our Young Athletes Program will serve athletes between the ages of 2-7, who have previously not been able to participate in our traditional program.
The Young Athletes Program will place more emphasis on play and social interaction than the sports and competition emphasis of our traditional program.  The idea is that skills that are practiced and developed during our Young Athletes Program will serve as a stepping stone so to speak and will ease the transition process into our traditional program when the athlete turns 8 years old .
